Frits
Frits are melted glass comprising materials such as silica, feldspar, calcite, borax, and soda and are of a virtually limitless range of compositions. Using frits in formulating a ceramic glaze provides several benefits:
• Incorporation of water-soluble and toxic materials, which are otherwise difficult to use
• Consistent results thereby reducing glaze defects
• Lower firing temperatures
• Improving the glaze fit on the body
• Reduced need for multiple raw materials
These advantages make frits an excellent choice for ceramic glaze formulation.
