Frits

Frits are melted glass compositions which can either be used as a raw material in glaze compositions (partially fritted glazes) or as a glaze by itself (balanced frits for fully fritted glazes).

Using frits in formulating a ceramic glaze provide several benefits :

Incorporation of water-soluble and toxic materials, which are otherwise difficult to use
Consistent results thereby reducing glaze defects
Lower firing temperatures
Improving the glaze fit on the body
Reduced need for multiple raw materials

These advantages make frits an excellent choice for use in ceramic glazes.
